Technical Overview
Tapered Roller Bearings use conical rolling elements on tapered raceways. When correctly mounted, the apex of each roller cone meets at a common point on the bearing axis — this geometry makes them extremely efficient for handling combined (radial + axial) loads of very high magnitude.
Because a single row bearing can only carry axial load in one direction, tapered roller bearings are typically mounted in pairs — face-to-face (O) or back-to-back (X) — or as double/four-row assemblies for bidirectional service. The contact angle determines the ratio of axial to radial load capacity.
